York & Ogunquit, Maine: 5 Boutique Hotels We Love
If you’re craving an easy coastal getaway with walkable beach towns, iconic New England views, and boutique stays that feel special, York and Ogunquit are hard to beat.
These two neighbors on Southern Maine’s coast make the perfect long weekend—think sunrise coffee walks, lobster rolls, Marginal Way cliffside views, and cozy hotel moments that feel like a full reset. Below are five of our favorite hotels to bookmark—each with its own vibe, price point, and “best for” traveler type.
Quick guide: York vs. Ogunquit
Ogunquit is lively + super walkable (beach, Perkins Cove, restaurants, and the Marginal Way coastal path).
York is classic Maine beach towns (Long Sands + Short Sands), lighthouse views, and a “split your day between beach + exploring” energy.
1) Dunes on the Waterfront (Ogunquit)
Vibe: Classic coastal cottage charm with a peaceful, tucked-away feel—right on the water.
Why we love it: Dunes is one of those places that immediately makes you relax. The property sits along the Ogunquit River with cottages that feel private and relaxed, plus all the “easy weekend” perks: a heated pool, a pontoon boat, fire pits, and plenty of spots to sit outside and soak up the views. It’s quiet and serene, but still close enough to get into town for beach time, dinner, and a Marginal Way stroll—without feeling like you’re in the middle of the action.
Best for: Couples who want a peaceful, romantic reset, families who love the cottage setup, or anyone who wants the calm side of Ogunquit with waterfront vibes.
2) The Trident Inn (Ogunquit)
Vibe: Ocean views and the perfect location to enjoy Ogunquit.
Why we love it: The location is absolutely perfect. The hotel sits above downtown with ocean views, and has a pool and hot tub plus on-site dining at Coastal Alchemist—which makes it a great “park once and enjoy” kind of stay.
Best for: Couples weekends (it’s 21+), friends trips, or anyone who wants Ogunquit walkability and an elevated stay.
3) ViewPoint Hotel (York)
Vibe: Quiet luxury with “wow” lighthouse and coastal views.
Standout amenities: The hotel has a heated saltwater pool, plus a spa-style setup (sauna/hot tub options) and a seasonal on-property food experience called A Little Auk that operates out of a 1969 Airstream (open May–October).
Best for: celebrating something, a true unwind weekend, or anyone who wants the “stay on property and soak it in” vibe. The views of Nubble Lighthouse can’t be beat!
4) The Nevada (York Beach)
Vibe: Design-forward beachfront, restored + modern but still “classic York Beach.”
Why it’s special: The Nevada describes itself as a historic hotel that was newly restored in 2024, with beachfront rooms that each include ocean views and a dedicated deck/seating setup. It also has Lulu’s, an on-site oceanfront bar/restaurant, plus an on-property surf school with lessons/rentals in-season.
Best for: Travelers who want to be right on Long Sands with a stylish, boutique feel.
5) Stones Throw (York Beach)
Vibe: Beachfront, casual-coastal, and super convenient for Long Sands days.
Good to know: Stones Throw is a boutique hotel overlooking/located across from Long Sands Beach. It’s also part of the same “family” of spots in the area, alongside The Nevada.
Best for: A classic beach weekend where you want easy ocean access and a relaxed feel.
Bonus: Cliff House Maine (Cape Neddick — easy for both York + Ogunquit)
Vibe: Dramatic cliffside resort with incredible views.
Why it makes a great “anchor stay”: Cliff House is an oceanfront luxury resort on the cliffs in Cape Neddick with a strong wellness and dining focus. It also has multiple pool options, including an indoor lap pool and other resort pool amenities. We’ve also recommended it as a “base” for an Ogunquit + York day because it’s easy to pair with a morning in Ogunquit (Marginal Way + beach) and an afternoon in York (Nubble Lighthouse).
Best for: A special occasion, a luxe reset, or a “we want the resort experience” weekend.
