Kennebunks, Maine Weekend Summer Itinerary
Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are charming coastal towns located next to each other in southern Maine, known for there picturesque beaches, delicious seafood, and quaint downtown area. The two towns, separated by the Kennebunk River, offer a range of activities for a weekend trip, including shopping, dining, and outdoor adventure such as biking and kayaking. This itinerary includes our recommendations for a fun and restful weekend in the Kennebunks, ME, including some “treat yourself” luxurious options. If you’re the type of person that wants to be on the go all weekend, you can certainly add even more to this itinerary.
Day 1: Morning
Start your day off right with a delicious breakfast at Mornings in Paris, a cozy French bakery and coffee shop located in the heart of downtown Kennebunk. Enjoy some freshly baked croissants and a fresh cup of coffee. After breakfast, take a walk down Main Street and Dock Square to explore the local shops, boutiques, and art galleries.
Once you’ve had your fill of exploring, we recommend heading over to Sea Love Kennebunkport for a unique and relaxing experience. This beautiful boutique offers a custom scent blending experience, where you can create your very own signature candle or diffuser. Reservations are recommended and they are BYOB!
Afternoon
After some walking and shopping, grab a bite to eat for lunch at The Clam Shack or Mabel’s Lobster Claw, two popular spots for a Maine lobster roll. The line for The Clam Shack starts early and continues to build throughout the day, so get there early if you don’t want a wait. Alternatively, you can make a reservation at Mabel’s Lobster Claw or opt for a seat on the deck at Boathouse Restaurant at The Boathouse Waterfront Hotel and Restaurant. After lunch, take a scenic drive along Ocean Avenue, which offers breathtaking views of the Maine coast and historic mansions. Take your time and stop at some of the scenic overlooks to soak in the beauty of the coastline.
Evening
Plan for a memorable dinner on a floating restaurant, The Spirit Restaurant. The Spirit Restaurant is a 125-foot schooner, known for their fresh seafood and creative cocktails. After dinner, take a sunset cruise on the Schooner Eleanor, a historic wooden schooner that offers views of the Maine coast and sunset over the water.
Day 2: Morning
Get ready for another fun day with breakfast at Mike’s All Day Breakfast, a casual spot with a large menu and friendly service. For a quick and delicious option, be sure to visit KPort Bagel. After breakfast, head to Goose Rocks Beach, a beautiful white sand public beach.
Afternoon
For lunch, if you’re looking to stay at the beach a little longer, visit The Tides Beach Club. If you’re ready to head back to the downtown area, visit the flagship Batson River Brewing & Distillery location, offering craft spirits and beers with a full menu for brunch, lunch, and dinner. After lunch, consider taking a lobster boat cruise or kayak to explore the beautiful Maine coastline. Alternatively, you can take a walk along Walker’s Point with views of the ocean and surrounding landscape.
Evening
The Kennebunks offer a lot of options for a great evening meal, whether you’re looking for a special occasion restaurant or a casual night out. These are a few of our favorites:
- Earth at Hidden Pond: An upscale, farm-to-fork spot at Hidden Pond Resort. The menu changes seasonally, built around locally sourced ingredients.
- White Barn Inn Restaurant: A Kennebunkport classic set in a restored barn.
- Rosella: A sushi restaurant with a focus on sustainability, using locally caught seafood whenever possible.
- The Lost Fire: An Argentine-style steakhouse where wood-fired meats are the majority of the menu. In summer, the outdoor patio is one of our favorite spots.
- Chez Rosa: A French bistro in a romantic New England barn setting.
