3 Days in Savannah: The Perfect Long Weekend Itinerary
I’ve been to Savannah, GA a few times over the past couple of years, three times for a girls’ weekend and once with my husband and friends to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary. Whether you’re going with friends or your significant other, Savannah is a fantastic choice for a weekend destination. Our 2-3 day itinerary will guide you through the picturesque streets and stunning landmarks of this charming city. From the historic charm of Forsyth Park to the the iconic River Street to the delicious Southern cuisine, there’s something for everyone in this city. This itinerary includes an afternoon at the beach, but if you would prefer to skip the beach, I’ve included more recommendations for restaurants and bars at the bottom of this post.
A few things you should know about Savannah as you plan your trip:
- Savannah is a very walkable city and if you do decide to visit Tybee Island, the city does have Uber and Lyft.
- There is an open container policy in Savannah, which means you can carry open drinks. Most restaurants will ask if you would like to order a to-go drink as you are paying the bill at the end of your meal.
- Make dinner reservations if you want to be sure you’ll be able to eat somewhere, and double check the hours of operation for the day of week that you plan to go.
- Savannah is considered to be one of America’s most haunted cities and you will find a lot of options for different haunted and spooky tours.
- There are 22 squares and parks in Savannah and they are all located across a one-square-mile area of downtown.

Where to Stay
Here are some hotel options for your stay:
- Hotel Bardo: Tucked just outside Savannah’s busiest squares, Hotel Bardo feels like a stylish hideaway—design-forward, calm, and made for lingering. Expect chic rooms, a strong food-and-drink scene, and a resort-like pool setup that’s perfect for a slow afternoon between walks through the historic district. Great for travelers who want Savannah charm with a modern, boutique-luxury vibe.
- Municipal Grand: Set in the heart of downtown Savannah, Municipal Grand blends historic character with a polished, elevated feel. We’re staying here later this year and the location looks perfect to explore on foot (coffee, squares, shopping, dinner), while the interiors lean classic-meets-modern.
- Perry Lane Hotel: One of Savannah’s most iconic luxury stays, Perry Lane is all about “treat-yourself” energy—elegant rooms, thoughtful service, and a rooftop scene that’s a destination on its own. It’s ideal for a special occasion weekend, especially if you love being steps from the best restaurants and want a hotel that feels lively, sophisticated, and unmistakably Savannah.
- Other hotels to consider that we haven’t tried yet:
- Bellwether House
- The Alida
- The Drayton Hotel
- JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District
- Thompson Savannah
- Keep your eyes peeled for the opening of Recess, which we believe is coming in 2026!
